Susan Ford and Geoff her husband are returning to Dorset after 20 wonderful years in Aquitaine France.
Susan`s art career really started while studying catering at Bournemouth and Poole College. She won a gold medal at the International Catering Exhibition `Hotel Olympia in 1976 for two shire horses modelled in chocolate. In 1984 Susan completed the Foundation course at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design. Three years later she graduated from Exeter College of Artn and Design with a BA(Hons)Fine Art in 1987 at the age of 46.
With her husband Geoff`s encouragement and technical assistance Susan`s career as a sculptor began. Susan became a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1995. Her sculpture `The Wessex Totem’ installed at West Dorchester Hospital in 1997 is now part of the UK National Collection of Public Art. She was also commissioned to build a dragon water feature and with her husband’s help built `The Gardian of the Garden` situated in Knoll Gardens at Wimborne, Dorset. Susan was commissioned by the charity Age Concern for a sculpture of two dancing hares for their ` The Time of your Life` garden at Chelsea Flower Show in the year 2000. This lead to a commission from garden designer Robin Williams for a wild flower garden in Osaka, Japan. Susan has many sculptures around the world.
Susan`s work reflects her love of animals and birds. Also Mythology legends and history.
She works with clay, metal and wire.
